Don't let him near the milk, he'll turn it sour.

Like how he turned this genuine Dead-related post sour ....... into the filth that he loves to wallow in:

RBNW - who needs him ? Certainly not me.

This sort of stupidity is rare here these days and is easily avoidable.A more pressing problem is the quality of posts regarding the bands music and that could be helped if forumites like yourself with intelligent and interesting things to say would pitch in with thread ideas and posts in interesting threads. As far as GD conversation this place is circling the drain.

Circling the drain? I can certainly see your point as valid. Another possible cause of the thinning of Dead-related posts is that we may be running out of things to talk about. We've covered "best shows from 73", "best version of Dew", taping insights from the pit, etc, etc, etc. Now today we have a new discussion (one I personally find very informative)about Phil's playing technique, something I don't recall being discussed in this way before. Unfortunately though, I can't think of many topics we haven't discussed many times over. Along these lines it seems that the newer contributors here almost always enter with valid Dead information, reviews or questions; and the older ones (myself included) tend more to treat the Forum as a place to hang out with familiar faces and trade stories, jokes, good natured ribbing and the like (more akin to being in the parking lot waiting to go into a show) since we've covered most of the ground our feeble minds can think of. As long as we continue to see new faces pop up around here, I think we'll always have some quality Dead discussion. But as these new faces become older faces, their conversations will naturally morph into those we are seeing more of these days.

In my case I'd rather not repeat myself (too much) and as a result I find myself with less new material to contribute. I mean, how many times can you tell WT to "Blow Me". Wait, that will never get old.

There seems to be a marked decline in quantity and quality of GD conversation over the last 6 months to a year.We also seem to have lost a number of posters who made many interesting contributions.I've been coming here daily for about 5 years so I understand the in's and out's and ebb of flow of the forum. My comment about circling the drain was not meant as a slight to the folks who frequent the forum.I would think with subject matter as rich as the GD and the collection of smart and well spoken folks who congregate here there would be more threads exploring that subject matter in a meaningful and interesting manner.I have come to enjoy and look forward to seeing what kind of mischief you and WT,Craven and the rest of the boys are up to and can't tell you how many times you have literally made me laugh out loud.I also find many of the non-Dead related threads very informative and interesting. So I'm not looking for the place to be all serious GD analysis all the time, but I would hope we could manage 3 or 4 thought provoking threads a month like we used to.

Please don't confuse Chris with "Tito". I know Fred, from Deadhook, stayed in contact with Chris "smi2les/bellski" Bell for a while. She hasn't mentioned him lately, so I'm not sure about this whereabouts nor his condition. Guess I will have to check with Fred.

Don't answer? World of pain? Smokey?

The mind boggles. Well, mine tends to do that on its own mostly, but now it is REALLY boggled.

Bring it, you kilt-lifting, sheep-bothering, bicycle-inventing (see, I know some actual stuff), penny pinching, cave-dwelling people eater (don't think I haven't noticed the Sawney Bean family crest on your correspondence).

Y'know I reckoned I could have relied on you above all others in this benighted realm to have picked up on a Lebowski reference. You are such a disappoint to me, SDH.

By the way did you ever try to catch a sheep on a bicycle? (No, I don't mean the sheep is riding the bicycle, though given what they have to put up with you'd reckon evolution would favour the cycling sheep...)

Damn! I missed it. Crap. I disappoint myself.

But, to be nitpicky, as is my wont, I believe the full quote is "Smokey, my friend, you are entering a world of pain".

Truly sad as I was a nihilist for the company Halloween party. Only a couple of people got it, which is sad since I feel that movie may be my country's single most valuable contribution to the world.

What we have here is almost a fetishazation. Find another forum or have a little discipline and "don't answer" the f'ing phone. You actually do not need to communicate ever again with each other.

But look, if you and I had stopped communuicating, as well we might, I'd never have given you Phil and Kimock's Days Between medley or championed Joanie O. But then I guess we're just exceptional individuals, so you can't really extrapolate.

We're all assholes, but we've learned that, in most situations, conflict avoidance trumps conflict resolution.

Do you think so, Bill? I think conflicts are best resolved wherever possible, not avoided. Case in point, myself and Micah, when we were taking a pop at each other we could have retreated into silence punctuated by the occasional burst of sniping but instead we sorted it out, and I think we're the better for having done so.

But we're all still assholes, nonetheless!

I agree Rob. You have to go at it head-on. However, that only works if both parties are ready to resolve. Otherwise,as you said, not possible.

Around here it usually goes like this:

Poster #1: .....so when I call you an asshole or douchebag it's all in good humor.

Poster #2: Well then, now that I know the rules, have at it...douchebag.

Poster #1: Ha! Welcome.

Rob, there was no avoidance to that conflict. It was there. And not all conflict can be avoided. When faced with the unavoidable conflict, a quick and rational resolution is the proper course of action. But as high flow said, both parties must be willing to resolve. Avoidance can sometimes mean a quick defusing of a volatile situation, but that could be construed as resolution as well.

And knowing the rules of engagement helps too.

I remember our nadir and its ugliness. After, we disengaged and didn't keep picking at each other. Also, I was embarrassed by my behavior and decided that I needed to change my approach if I wanted to keep posting here. That we were able to apologize to each other many months later is (to me) a blessing.

What other people do or don't I won't speak to. It would be nice if they got each others emails so they could abuse each other privately, if needs must be.

btw- You do get a few lifetime bonus points from me for those recs.
